Man Sentenced in Credit Card Fraud
Los Angeles businessman James Perry was sentenced Monday to six months in jail and ordered to repay $2,000 to victims he cheated when he applied for credit cards in their names while pledging to help them secure bank loans.
Perry, 49, pleaded no contest to two counts of petty theft and two counts of false and misleading advertising. In exchange for his plea, three other counts were dropped, city attorney’s spokesman Mike Qualls said.
Perry, of Los Angeles, was arrested July 13 while serving a sentence in county jail for spousal battery. He was charged with falsely promising 10 people that he could help them arrange loans for a $200 fee and then using their names to apply for credit cards.
His business, International Financial Services, was advertised in newspaper ads in Los Angeles, Long Beach, La Mirada, Pasadena, Hawthorne and Rosemead.
