Egyptians voted in a presidential referendum certain to endorse President Hosni Mubarak for a second six-year term. The state-run Middle East News Agency said the turnout was “unprecedented” in most parts of the country. An estimated 14 million Egyptians were eligible to vote. Mubarak, 59, the only candidate on the ballot, voted in Heliopolis, a Cairo suburb. Results are not expected until this morning. The referendum asked voters to approve or disapprove a second term for Mubarak, who was nominated in April by the Parliament, which is dominated by his ruling National Democratic Party.
