A new Israeli book says King Hussein of Jordan met with Israeli leaders more than 20 times, often in unusual settings ranging from a tent on a Red Sea island to a doctor’s office in London. The book, “Hostile Partnership,” was written by Israeli journalists Yossi Melman and Daniel Raviv and published in Hebrew. It contends the two neighboring states established a pattern of cooperation on practical issues such as mosquito control, water sharing and pollution despite the existing state of war between them. The contacts, which began in 1963, came to a halt under the government of former Prime Minister Menachem Begin, the book says.
