Children are being hired out for sex, exported for adoption and exploited in sweatshops around the world, a Council of Europe report said Monday.

The report said Guatemalan children could be bought for $20,000 each and Thai child-brides for $4,000.

From India and Brazil to the United States and France, “the prices for different kinds of prostitution with children are much higher than with adult prostitutes,” it said.

The study, due to be debated today by the 21-nation Council of Europe parliamentary assembly, urges West European governments to take action in the United Nations to enforce anti-exploitation laws and improve controls at home.
