North Korea criticized South Korea’s failure to send somebody to the border village of Panmunjom last Saturday to receive a letter from the North on its demand to be a co-host to the 1988 Seoul Olympics.
The North Korean Workers’ (Communist) Party newspaper Rodong Sinmun, in a commentary carried by Pyongyang’s official Korean Central News Agency, said, “This is insolent behavior ignoring even elementary etiquette.”
Last Friday, Pyongyang broadcast a request for the South to send two officials to Panmunjom Saturday to receive a letter from the North Korean Olympic Committee.
Officials of the South Korean Olympic Committee did not comply, calling the request “unilateral,” and said it would receive the letter on Oct. 12.
