Local News in Brief : Transients Stage Protest

Share

A group of 25 transients, bent on bringing the plight of the homeless to the attention of the affluent, moved into Malibu on Tuesday, their latest stop in a trek across Southern California.

Homeless activist Ted Hayes led the group single file along Pacific Coast Highway to the Pepperdine University campus and a planned night on the university’s football field.

Carrying signs reading “Justice for the Homeless” and chanting, “Justice, justice, justice,” the group planned to protest the football stadium accommodations provided by the university.

“There are no shaded areas there and only one water fountain,” said Ruth Cowan, a volunteer marching with the group. “Tomorrow we’d like to try to get on the university campus itself.”
