Syrian Envoy Slain in Belgium
A 38-year-old Syrian diplomat was shot and killed in front of his home in Brussels today by a lone attacker who fled on foot, police and witnesses reported.
Police said Antanios Hanna, first secretary of his country’s embassy here, was shot several times as he left his home on Avenue Montjoie in Uccle, a residential suburb of Brussels. Shortly after the shooting, an anonymous caller to a Belgian news agency claimed responsibility for the “murder of a Syrian secret agent” on behalf of Syrian “moujahedeen” (holy warriors).
