A holdup man believed to be the Gentleman Bandit, who netted $350,000 and was responsible for the third-highest number of bank robberies in FBI history, died of gunshot wounds suffered during a heist in Littleton, Colo. The 34-year-old man, who identified himself as Melvin Dellinger, fit the description of the Gentleman Bandit, the polite bank robber who committed more than 49 holdups across the nation since 1984, the FBI said. Dellinger, a Denver resident, was shot by a security guard Wednesday in the same bank the bandit struck four years ago in the first of 27 Colorado robberies, the FBI said.
