The World : 10 Die in Lebanon Clashes
Shia Muslim militiamen and Palestinian guerrillas battled into a second day for control of strategic highlands in southern Lebanon, and the toll rose to 10 killed and 28 wounded, police said. The new confrontation threatened to rekindle an intermittent war between Justice Minister Nabih Berri’s Amal militia and Yasser Arafat’s Palestine Liberation Organization for control of the camps. As the two forces slugged it out on the ground, Israeli warplanes roared over Sidon’s Palestinian refugee camps of Miye ou Miye and Ein el Hilwa in mock raids. Refugees scurried to bomb shelters, but the jets made no bombing runs.
