Employees at Madrid’s Prado art museum shut it down Tuesday in an unprecedented 24-hour strike over wages and hours. Augustin Martin, manager of the museum, told the Associated Press that the 330 strikers balked at the government’s 5% cap on pay increases for civil servants in 1988. A spokesman for employees called the monthly $500 wage for security guards and $916 salary for restorers “humiliating” and “undignified” for a museum of the Prado’s stature.
