Boise Cascade’s profit jumped 279% to $50.4 million in the third quarter. The Boise, Ida., company said earnings in the year-ago quarter were hurt by a labor strike at the company’s pulp and paper mill in Rumford, Me. Revenue for the third quarter of 1987 rose 5.7% to $997 million. The company also credited improved efficiency, better markets for virtually all of its paper products and continued strong markets for its building products.
