La Palma : Free Federal Food to Be Given Away

Share

Free staple foods such as cheese, butter, honey, flour, rice and cornmeal will be distributed in La Palma Tuesday at a monthly food disbursement at the La Palma Community Center.

U.S. Department of Agriculture surplus commodities will be distributed from 3 to 5 p.m. at the center on Walker Street in Central Park. According to Janet Cates, city recreation supervisor, only about 38% of residents eligible to receive the free surplus food are participating in the program.

To qualify for the giveaway, participants must prove city residency (driver’s license or other picture identification with a recent utility bill will work), and they must meet poverty level requirements.
