Friday has been proclaimed World Food Day by President Reagan, the White House announced Wednesday.

In the proclamation, Reagan said the United States is “deeply committed to feeding the hungry wherever they may be.”

He said more must be done to fight world hunger, and Americans have established “an extensive network of private and public efforts” in the battle.

Reagan urged greater international coordination of agricultural and trade policies to stimulate economic growth; ending government interference in the marketplace, and installing sytems that “promote private ownership, reward effort and efficiency and recognize the dignity of those who work the land.”
