Local News in Brief : Festival to Close Street

Share

A half-mile stretch of Santa Monica Boulevard will be closed from 8 p.m. tonight until 8 a.m. Monday for the second annual West Hollywood Street Festival.

The event is expected to attract up to 300,000 people to the street and sidewalks between La Cienega and Crescent Heights boulevards, Sheriff’s Lt. Tony Denis said.

Beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday, the program will feature two days of music and comedy performances and 236 booths offering ethnic food, drinks and arts and crafts--and also an “Aid for AIDS Casino.”

A similar event in downtown Los Angeles was canceled this year, in part because of scattered violence and high costs. But West Hollywood officials said they expect no problems beyond traffic tie-ups and parking shortages.
