Stanford Named Top University in National Survey
WASHINGTON — Stanford was named the nation’s best university Thursday in a survey in which 764 college presidents took part.
It was the third time in the three years of the annual survey of American higher education that Stanford was selected best, narrowly edging out Harvard, Yale and Princeton.
A total of 1,329 college presidents were surveyed and nearly 60% responded. The survey is conducted by U.S. News & World Report magazine.
Others in the top 25: University of California, Berkeley; Dartmouth; Duke; University of Chicago and University of Michigan, tied for eighth place; Brown; Cornell, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, all tied for 11th; University of Virginia; Johns Hopkins; Northwestern; Columbia; University of Pennsylvania; University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign; California Institute of Technology; College of William & Mary; University of Wisconsin at Madison; Washington University; Emory University and the University of Texas at Austin.
