Ousted President Thomas Sankara was shot and killed after his government was overthrown in a coup led by his second-in-command, Capt. Blaise Compaore, a well-informed official source said today.

The Burkina Faso source said Sankara and about a dozen other people were killed during Thursday’s coup. He said they were buried in a cemetery outside this West African capital. The source, who commented on condition of anonymity, provided no more details.
