Vorontsov, Syrian Meet

DAMASCUS, Syria — A senior Soviet official met with Syrian Foreign Minister Farouk Shareh on Saturday to discuss Middle East peace efforts and the Iran-Iraq War, the official Syrian Arab News Agency said.

The agency said Yuli M. Vorontsov, a first deputy foreign minister, arrived Saturday from Jordan, where he spent two days meeting with Prime Minister Zaid Rifai and other government officials. He has also visited Egypt on a Middle East mission that is coinciding with a tour of the area by U.S. Secretary of State George P. Shultz.
