Sands Primary Sponsor of ‘Run for World Health’
Fred Sands is the primary sponsor of Sunday’s first “Run for World Health,” organized by the Aesculapians Student Committee of the UCLA School of Medicine.
Proceeds from the five- and 10-kilometer run will go toward scholarships for a poverty medicine program that sends third-year medical students to serve the underprivileged in the United States and throughout the world.
The support group has recruited the active participation of Rafer Johnson, Olympic gold medalist and UCLA alumnus, who will start the race. Actors Steve Guttenberg and Martin Sheen are also involved in the fund-raising event; Times cartoonist Paul Conrad designed the promotional art.
Entry fee for the run, which takes place on a sanctioned 10-K course ending in Drake Stadium at UCLA, is $13 for late registration.
