Stanislaus County sheriff’s deputies said a Ku Klux Klan cross-burning rally in an alfalfa field near Modesto attracted several young “skinheads” from the San Francisco Bay Area. They said 13 youths with shaved pates from Palo Alto, Turlock and Hollister attended the event, and four were initiated into the Klan during the ceremony, adding white hoods and robes to their usual wardrobe of leather boots and swastika T-shirts. Deputies said the ceremony was on private land and included a dinner of chicken, followed by the burning of a 20-foot cross.
