DRUG-PROGRAM GRANT GIVEN
Stop-Gap, a drama therapy organization based in Costa Mesa, has received $25,200 from the Pacific Mutual Foundation to bring a program about drug abuse to more than 60 parent-teacher groups in Orange County.
The program, “Under Pressure,” written by Stop-Gap actor Robert Knapp, features and is based on the experiences of youths from Phoenix House, a drug rehabilitation program based in Santa Ana.
Since April, 1986, “Under Pressure” has been presented to nearly 9,000 junior high students in the county. Productions are followed by discussions conducted by professional counselors, teachers and Stop-Gap members.
Don Laffoon, Stop-Gap’s executive director, also announced that next month the troupe will begin touring with a new piece, “His Brother’s Keeper,” which deals with AIDS. Productions are slated for Golden West and Rancho Santiago colleges and Thurston Middle School in Laguna Beach.
