U.S. and Canadian jets intercepted four long-range Soviet patrol planes about 120 miles off Canada’s east coast, a Defense Department spokesman said. It was the 11th time this year that Soviet planes have been intercepted by aircraft under control of the joint U.S.-Canadian North American Aerospace Defense Command, known by the acronym Norad.
