San Francisco City Atty. Louise Renne says her office will file a lawsuit soon against the all-male Olympic Club because it has refused to remove its barriers to women members. “I think the club has left us very little choice,” Renne said. “I think the club cannot use public property and continue to discriminate.” County supervisors adopted a resolution urging her to begin court proceedings to terminate the club’s lease of 17 acres of city-owned land, which forms part of its Lake and Ocean golf courses. Renne had negotiated with the club’s officers for a change in bylaws that would have allowed membership for women and more minorities. But the 3,600 members rejected the changes in a vote two weeks ago by more than 400 votes.
