The State : LSD Use May Close Co-Op

An “acid punch” party that sent seven people to a Berkeley hospital resulted in new demands that a controversial student housing cooperative be closed or taken over by the University of California. Barrington Hall manager Robert Dick resigned under pressure after the recent party, at which the hallucinogen LSD was put into punch. Dick “knew what was going on and didn’t shut it down,” said George Proper, general manager of the University Students Cooperative Assn. Berkeley City Councilwoman Shirley Dean said she plans to introduce a resolution asking the school to take over the hall and run it as a dormitory. Last year Barrington Hall was almost shut down because of drug problems. Proper threatened drastic action if there is another incident.
