Local News in Brief : ‘Santa Claus’ Rejects Deal

Glendale’s self-styled Santa Claus on Monday rejected a city proposal that would require him to close his year-round “Santa’s Dream House” to avoid defending it in court.

Glendale officials offered to drop a nuisance suit against 63-year-old Robert George if he agreed to keep all members of the public except relatives and close friends off his rented property, remove the extensive Christmas decorations from the house and turn off the more than 40,000 Christmas lights strung along the eaves and windows of the home--except for six weeks during the holiday season. The city also asked that George refrain from advertising his home as Santa’s residence.

George’s attorney, L. Edmund Kellogg, said the case will probably go to trial before Christmas.
