The United States conducted a successful test of a cruise missile over Canada’s far north despite criticism from Canadian opposition parties. An Air Force B-52 carried the unarmed missile along a 1,500-mile corridor from the Beaufort Sea to a weapons-testing range in northeastern Alberta without incident, a Canadian Defense Department spokesman said. The nearly four-hour flight was the ninth U.S. cruise missile test in Canada since the two countries signed a weapons-testing accord in 1983. The Canadian spokesman said the B-52 returned to Fairchild Air Force Base at Spokane, Wash., without landing in Canada.
