2nd New Party Set Up in S. Korea

The December presidential election shaped up as a four-way race today when former Prime Minister Kim Jong Pil formed the second new political party of the campaign and became its presidential candidate.

About 3,200 people attended the inaugural convention of his New Democratic Republican Party, which adheres to former President Park Chung Hee’s goals of pushing rapid industrialization. Park was assassinated in October, 1979. Also seeking the presidency are government candidate Roh Tae Woo and opposition candidates Kim Young Sam and Kim Dae Jung.
