Toll in Indianapolis Jet Crash Rises to 10
A man who was severely burned when a crippled Air Force jet slammed into a Ramada Inn near Indianapolis International Airport has died, raising to 10 the number of people killed in the Oct. 20 crash, authorities said.
Thomas Murray, 37, a salesman from nearby Carmel who stopped to make a telephone call at the hotel just before the crash, was pronounced dead at 5:23 p.m. Thursday at Wishard Hospital. He had been in a coma since the crash and suffered severe burns over 95% of his body, a hospital official said.
He was in the lobby of the hotel when the crippled A-7D jet flown by Maj. Bruce Teagarden clipped a bank building and plunged into the side of the Ramada Inn, killing nine and injuring seven, including Murray. Teagarden ejected from the jet seconds before the crash and parachuted to safety.
