Shumway to Retire From Allied-Signal
Allied-Signal Vice Chairman Forrest N. Shumway will take early retirement effective Jan. 1.
As chairman of Signal Cos., Shumway helped engineer its merger with Allied Corp. in 1985. Shumway, 60, has been a Signal executive since 1957 and is the nephew of Signal’s late founder, Samuel Mosher.
An attorney, Shumway started out in Signal’s legal department after working in the Los Angeles County Counsel’s office for four years. He became a Signal board member in 1958, general counsel in 1961 and president and chief executive in 1968.
Shumway was elected Signal chairman in 1980, the same year that the company moved its headquarters to La Jolla after more than four decades of operations in the Los Angeles area. A La Jolla resident, Shumway has worked out of Allied-Signal’s La Jolla offices since the merger.
Shumway is a director of First Interstate Bancorp, Aluminum Co. of America, and Transamerica Corp. He also sits on the board of trustees of University of Southern California and on the Board of Overseers of University of California, San Diego.
Allied-Signal, based in Morris Township, N.J., is an advanced technology company with businesses in aerospace, automotive products and engineered materials.
