Thailand’s chief air crash investigator cited pilot error as the main cause of a Thai Airways jet crash that killed all 83 aboard, including 37 foreigners, on Aug. 31. Yuttapong Kittikachorn said the Thai Airways Boeing 737 was approaching Phuket, a resort 430 miles south of Bangkok, when its crew became distracted by another 737 approaching the airport, neglected to monitor their air speed, and let the plane’s speed drop below stalling speed at an altitude too low to recover. The twin-engine plane stalled and crashed into the sea a mile from the airport.
