An Italian man wanted in connection with investigations of organized crime in the United States was shot and killed on a Milan street, police said Sunday.

Police said Francesco Affatigato, 35, was shot several times at close range with an automatic pistol by a man he had been walking Saturday night. He died in a city hospital.

Police said witnesses heard Affatigato shout several times “I won’t tell anyone!” as his killer continued shooting. The killer escaped.

A native of Palermo, Sicily, Affatigato was wanted by U.S. investigators for questioning in the so-called Pizza Connection case, in which the American Mafia trafficked heroin through mob-related pizza parlors, police said.

They added that Affatigato apparently had trusted the man who killed him because he was unarmed.
