An American kidnaped and held 15 days by rebels in Nicaragua said the Contras abducted him because they thought he might be a Russian, then used his captivity as an elaborate propaganda show. Paul Fisher, 41, of Mill Valley, Calif., told reporters in Managua that the Contras “made a big demonstration of paying for everything, including sugar and cigarettes,” then freed him to deliver a press release calling for peace talks. Fisher, an investigator with the American activist group Witness for Peace, said he was held in the mountains until his release last week. He plans to stay in Nicaragua, he added.
