Iran and Iraq Agree to Talks at U.N.
Iran and Iraq have agreed to send representatives for a new round of talks with U.N. Secretary General Javier Perez de Cuellar on ending their seven-year war, a U.N. spokesman said Tuesday.
Francois Giuliani said Iraq will send Foreign Minister Tarik Aziz and that Iran has “agreed in principle” to send a representative but has not named one.
“There is going to be a process of discussion,” said Giuliani.
The spokesman said dates for the talks have yet to be worked out. However, Iraqi Ambassador Ismat Kittani told reporters that no visit by the foreign minister can be expected before the Arab states’ summit in Amman, scheduled for Sunday.
