Irish Territorial Waters Extended to 12 Miles

DUBLIN, Ireland —
The Irish Republic will extend its territorial waters from three to 12 nautical miles from its coastline, Foreign Minister Brian Lenihan announced Wednesday.
He said Ireland is following the lead of 102 other coastal states, including eight in the European Communities, which have extended their territorial limits.
A similar move by Britain last month provoked port blockades in France by outraged fishermen.
