BACHELORS FOR BID

Twenty-one of Orange County’s most eligible bachelors will step onto the auction block Monday at the March of Dimes “Bid for Bachelors” benefit at the Hotel Meridien in Newport Beach.

Single women and men are invited to the cocktail party and auction, which will raise funds for the March of Dimes’ Birth Defects Foundation. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door (for more information, call the March of Dimes, 631-8700).

The following is a list of the pickings--who’s up for sale and where they’re headed with their dates. Each bachelor has custom-designed his own “date package,” then solicited underwriting or donations to cover the cost. Dates range from a horseback-riding expedition in the Saddleback Mountains to exotic vacations in Tahiti, Barbados and Singapore. Donald J. Adsit Age: 43 Eyes: Hazel Hair: Gray Height: 6-0 1/2 Profession: Regional manager, Kontron Instruments Adsit says the kind of woman who would find him interesting is “tired of . . . men enamoured with their egos and material possessions.” The top bidder for Adsit will accompany him to San Francisco for a weekend of fine dining and shopping, highlighted by a sailplane ride over Napa Valley and a private tour of a winery.
