Maj. Gen. Vernon Evans, Eisenhower Classmate

Retired Army Maj. Gen. Vernon Evans, 94, who was in the same military class as Gens. Dwight D. Eisenhower and Omar Bradley. He graduated from West Point in the class of 1915, which came to be known as “the class the stars fell on” because it included such future military giants as Eisenhower and Bradley. He served in both world wars and from 1948 to 1950 was the chief military adviser to the Shah of Iran. He also held military advisory posts in India and Berlin before retiring in 1954. In a Bethesda, Md., nursing home on Wednesday.
