Irish kidnaping victim John O’Grady was freed in a dramatic shoot-out between police and his captors, who escaped in a hijacked car, apparently with a woman hostage, police said in the Dublin suburb of Cabra. A detective was seriously injured in the gun battle, which ended a three-week ordeal for dentist John O’Grady, the son-in-law of Irish millionaire Austin Darragh. O’Grady, now recovering in an exclusive Dublin clinic, was shot in the hand when the gunmen fled. His abductors also sliced off the ends of his little fingers as they sought a ransom of $2.25 million. His family had just decided to pay the ransom when detectives determined that the 38-year-old O’Grady was being held at a house in the suburb.
