Cuban President Fidel Castro has agreed to send to the United States 16 Americans jailed on criminal charges and 200 Cubans who are either current or former political prisoners, an evangelical leader has announced. The Rev. Tim Willy of World Relief Services said that Castro made the pledge to him and others who went to Cuba in early September under the sponsorship of the National Assn. of Evangelicals. “Castro and some of his people told us: ‘We’ve got some Americans, and we would like to release them to you,’ ” Willy said. The names of the Americans were not disclosed.
