Cowboys & Indians Concert

The attempts by liberals (and that term is used loosely) to justify the recent Peter Coyote-produced Nelson/Kristofferson/Mitchell/Williams “Cowboys for Indians and Justice for Leonard Peltier” concert are as repulsive as the event itself (“Willie Nelson Heads All-Star Lineup,” by Robert Hilburn, Oct. 29).

Regardless of the flowerly and falsely wonderful superlatives provided by The Times’ pop music critic regarding the show, there can absolutely be no justification whatsoever for an event solely to raise money for the benefit of a person who was convicted of brutally murdering two other human beings in cold blood. (Of course, would the benefit have been held if the person had been convicted of killing two other Indians, as opposed to the two FBI agents that he killed? That is a rhetorical question.)

Possibly one cartoonist for a newspaper put it best when he showed a group of people going into a stadium for a Nazi rally during the 1930s. One person said to his companion, “This is not political. It is just for watching, marching, having fun and listening to good oom-pah music.” It was a parody of this event.
