Two Sri Lankan officials from a prominent Tamil family were shot to death in Indian-occupied Jaffna city, raising fear and anger among Tamil civilians, government officials said. The brothers, Rajendra and Mahendra Duraiswamy, were killed Friday by unidentified gunmen. Rajendra Duraiswamy was an official with the Ministry of Local Government and his brother an executive in the government banking system. The shootings come at a time when Indian forces, who drove Tamil rebels out of Jaffna on Oct. 23, are trying to return the city to normalcy. Meanwhile, Indian officials said at least 15 rebels and three Indian soldiers were killed in skirmishes southeast of Jaffna.
