More than 2,000 Teamsters Union members meeting in Detroit won support from Michigan lawmakers and labor leaders in opposing a possible effort to place the union under federal trusteeship, a spokesman said. Union members met for about three hours in what spokesman Richard Leebove called the first such summit since 1967, when then-President James R. Hoffa was jailed on a jury tampering conviction. The support voiced by Michigan AFL-CIO leaders during the rally drew upon the Teamsters’ Nov. 1 reaffiliation with the national labor federation.
