Lebanon’s trade unions called off a five-day general strike after the government promised to form a special committee to look into ways of boostig the value of the pound. The government promise came after 100,000 Muslim and Christian demonstrators joined forces at Beirut’s “Green Line,” a symbol of divided Lebanon, to protest the country’s worst economic crisis.
