World chess champion Gary Kasparov today won the resumed 11th game of his title contest with challenger Anatoly Karpov to seize a 6-5 lead in the 24-game series.

Karpov, playing white, resigned after black’s 50th move, unable to stop Kasparov from promoting a pawn into a queen. Kasparov now has scored three victories and Karpov two, with six games drawn. The 12th game is scheduled for Wednesday with Kasparov playing white.
