Gerald Trimble, a prime force behind the dramatic revival of downtown San Diego, resigned as the head of that city’s downtown redevelopment agency to become president and chief executive officer of USC’s new Real Estate Development Corp.

Trimble, 52, was San Diego’s highest paid official, earning $105,000 a year.

The for-profit corporation at USC was created last month by the university’s board of directors to oversee development of the university’s property around its University Park and Health Sciences campuses, perhaps in joint ventures with other property owners and developers.
