AND NOW HERE’S THE NEWS: Megadeth, the monsters of the Speed-Metal Midway, are finishing up a new album, due out in February (they’re still debating titles, with leading candidates being “So Far, So Good . . . So What!” and “Once Upon a Time Is Now”). One cut you can count on--a remake of the Sex Pistols’ classic “Anarchy in the UK,” with ex-Pistol Steve Jones sitting in on guitar. . . . If you can’t wait that long for a speed-metal fix, watch for “The $19.98 HV/Cliff-Em-All,” a new home video from Metallica, which like the band’s recent “$5.98 EP,” carries its pricetag on its title. Due out in early December from Elektra Records, the video features 90 minutes of bootleg concert and interview footage shot predominantly by the band’s own fans (the performances feature the band’s now-deceased bassist, Cliff Burton--hence the moniker). Since Metallica has never made a bona fide MTV-style video, the compilation is a must for band followers, who probably won’t be bothered by the homemade quality of the clips. Even Elektra has touted the collection as having “some footage as raw as sushi.” . . . Linda Ronstadt’s new album, “Canciones de Mi Padre (Songs for My Father),” is out this week (see review, Page 76). But we also offer a tip of the sombrero to Ronstadt for cajoling her label into signing David Lindley (who ironically was dropped by Elektra several years ago). Lindley’s working on a new album, due out early next year, with Ronstadt herself handling the production chores. . . . And our album title of the week goes to ex-Stray Cat Brian Setzer, whose new solo album is titled “Live Nude Guitars.” Produced by Chris Thomas, it features such tunes as “She Thinks I’m Trash,” “So Young, So What” and a remake of Eddie Cochran’s “Nervous Breakdown.”
