Five years after its invasion was repulsed, Argentina has again claimed sovereignty over the Falkland Islands and called on Britain to negotiate the issue at the United Nations. The British representative, Crispin Tickell, responded that the matter involves self-determination. “The islanders wish to remain under our sovereignty,” Tickell told the General Assembly. Previous General Assembly resolutions since the 1982 war have urged the two countries to negotiate.
