Bishops Ask Help for Aging Priests, Nuns

WASHINGTON —
The nation’s Roman Catholic bishops voted overwhelmingly today to ask the faithful to dig into their pockets for a nationwide, annual collection to aid impoverished nuns and priests facing infirmity and old age.
In a vote many considered a “motherhood and apple pie” question, bishops agreed to establish a 12th national collection to meet what has been called the major demographic crisis of the church.
