An Arab-American dissident who advocates nonviolent resistance in Israel’s occupied territories says he will defy a deportation order. Israel ordered Mubarak Awad, 44, to leave the country despite U.S. pleas that he be allowed to stay. Awad said he received a letter from the Interior Ministry informing him that his tourist visa will not be renewed and that he must leave the country by Friday. He has urged Arabs to withhold taxes and boycott Israeli goods to protest occupation of the West Bank and Gaza Strip. Meanwhile, the military command said that it had ordered the deportation of Abdel Aziz Odeh, spiritual leader of the Islamic Jihad in the Gaza Strip , because of his “extreme, inciteful activities.”
