WASHINGTON — President Reagan told a group of Jewish leaders on Tuesday that he will press the cause of Jewish emigration during his upcoming summit with Soviet leader Mikhail S. Gorbachev, one participant said.
“He emphasized that the question of compliance with the (1975) Helsinki accords, which includes the rights of Jews to emigrate, was a touchstone of Soviet credibility,” said Morris B. Abram, the chairman of the National Conference on Soviet Jewry.
Abram and 11 others met with Reagan to discuss his Dec. 7 summit and a planned pre-summit demonstration by Jewish groups here.
