The World : Iran Hit Hospital, Iraq Says
Iran sent its warplanes deep into Iraq in reprisal for an Iraqi strike on a nuclear power plant a day earlier. Tehran television said the targets were “military and economic installations,” but Baghdad said a single Iranian aircraft bombed a hospital at Dihok, in Iraq’s northern Sulaymaniyah province, killing nine patients and wounding 64. The official Iranian news agency also claimed that Iranian ground forces killed 1,000 Iraqi soldiers during an assault in the same area.
