N.Y. Escapee Arrested in L.A.
A reputed Gambino crime family member who is allegedly one of New York City’s biggest heroin traffickers has been arrested by federal authorities in Los Angeles two months after skipping trial, prosecutors said today.
Federal authorities acting on a tip found Mark Reiter, 39, Wednesday night in a Holiday Inn in Los Angeles, sources said. Reiter was standing trial on drug trafficking charges in Brooklyn when he escaped, but is now being held on new charges stemming from a Manhattan indictment unsealed today. In the new indictment, Reiter is charged with distributing $240,000 in heroin every other week from 1982 to 1987.
